Designing reactive distillation processes: present and future
نویسندگان
چکیده
The potential benefits of applying reactive distillation (RD) processes are taxed by significant complexities in process development and design. The design problem is formulated in the wider context of process development and engineering. From that perspective design methods for RD units developed over the last decades are classified and described. A fingerprint of the most representative work in the three categories, graphical, optimisationand heuristic-based, is presented and deficiencies are identified. In response to a need for a more integrated design methodology, a conceptual model is offered which uses a hierarchy of embedded design spaces of increasing refinement and conjugates the strengths of both the graphicaland optimisation-based methods. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. Simulation Of Reactive Distillation Column
Reactive distillation processes couple chemical reactions and physical separations into a single unit operation. The ethyl acetate production by esterification reaction is equilibrium limited and is suitable to be carried out in a distillation column. In the present work, a reactive distillation column for the production of ethyl acetate is simulated using Aspen Plus. The component compositions...
متن کاملDynamic investigation of high-purity/high-conversion generic reactive distillation
Abstract This paper presents the nonlinear dynamic analysis of an ideal two-reactant-two product reactive distillation. The impact of disturbance magnitudes and directions on openloop stability of the system is studied. An analysis of the physicochemical phenomena present in reactive distillation processes that, under certain operational conditions, causes special types of nonlinear behavior is...
متن کاملA Systematic Approach on the Dynamic Modeling of Reactive Distillation Processes The standard mathematical model (NPHSP)
This work addresses the major problem of reactive distillation (RD) processes mathematical modeling, revealing also why detecting the presence of a three-phase regime (vapour-liquid-liquid) on the column stages is of utmost importance. In this paper, the authors present in detail their starting modeling approach, which describes the behaviour of a “classic” RD process (where the potential liqui...
متن کاملBiodiesel Production by Integrated Reactive- Separation Design
The properties of biodiesel as renewable fuel, as well as the problems associated with its conventional production processes are outlined. A novel sustainable process based on catalytic reactive distillation is proposed as alternative. The pros and cons of manufacturing biodiesel via fatty acid esterification using metal oxides as solid acid catalysts are investigated. The experimental findings...
متن کاملDynamic Simulation of Reactive Distillation Processes with Liquid-liquid Phase Splitting
This paper presents a modern modeling approach for reactive distillation processes with potential phase splitting. It is based on a classical model (pseudo-homogeneous) in connection with a robust and reliable phase splitting algorithm (through homotopy-continuation method), performed at each simulation step. Model validation stage and a simple case-study (by applying the new approach to a reac...
